Welcome to Notes on Literature: For Readers and Writers

Welcome to Notes on Literature: For Readers and Writers, a blog run by the University of Chester’s Department of English, housed in the beautiful Old Vicarage.

From time to time, members of the Department (staff and students) will post interesting notes, mainly about the texts and authors studied on our BA, MA, MRes, and PhD programmes.

There will be notes on, for example, Shakespeare, Dickens, Frankenstein, Dracula, Ford Madox Ford, Agatha Christie, Ian McEwan, Carol Ann Duffy, prose poetry, and flash fiction. There will be thoughts/musings on texts, sometimes about anomalies or curious images, words, phrases. There will be pieces on connections between texts, possible influences, echoes, and allusions. There will be short articles on why a text is brilliant or overrated. There will be reviews of recent texts, plays, and TV/film adaptations.

I hope you enjoy the blog!

  1. Most interesting to read work by tutors and student on one blog, makes one feel very connected to the Creative Writing Team at Chester. Thanks.
